The Early Childhood Collaborative of Southington is offering this workshop for childcare providers, Gardening 101 - How to Incorporate the Joys of Gardening into Your Preschool Curriculum, thanks to the grant we received from Activate Southington.
The workshop will be presented by Master Gardener Christie Kuriger. She is a former preschool and first grade teacher and now volunteers at the St. Paul’s Common Good Garden and the Mark Twain House gardens.
The presentation will cover:
- Benefits of children gardening
- Introduce gardening with a story
- Looking inside of a seed
- How plants grow; what they need to live
- Activities/lessons for young children in the garden
Attendees will plant their own seeds to take home and will receive a hand out of resources that will include sample lessons and a bibliography of children’s books.
Funding was also received to give Southington providers gardening supplies, so please register ASAP so we can shop for what you need.
Monday, July 23rd, the rain date is Tuesday, July 24th.
Time: Registration at 6 pm, workshop from 6:30 to 8 pm.
Snacks will be provided.
Certificates of attendance will be provided.
This is a hands-on class so please be prepared to be outside in the garden and bring a folding chair.
St. Paul’s Common Good Garden is located between St. Paul's Church and Bread for Life.
Parking is available along Vermont Ave, at Bread for Life or in the large lot across Main Street.
